Web banners are not as popular as they were in the early days of the internet, mostly because many people didn’t realize you can click on one to visit the website it’s telling you about. As static online ads they weren’t very successful. But web banners can work.
Here are a few of the secrets I’ve learned over the years, that guide all my designs:
- Keep it simple. A banner is usually not very big. It’s a teaser, not a full ad.
- If your banner is animated, make sure it stops after a short time – seconds, not minutes. You probably find moving banners annoying – as do most people – why give yours that handicap?
- Put “Click here” somewhere on your banner, so they know there’s more to do than just look at it once.
I can create a web banner for you according to the specs of the website where you’ll be using it.
